SynTech Research at ACORBAT-CORBANA 2026: Advancing Banana Disease Management Research

SynTech Research is proud to announce our participation in ACORBAT-CORBANA 2026, taking place April 20-23, 2026, in Mérida, Mexico. This prestigious international congress brings together leading researchers, producers, and industry stakeholders to address current challenges and innovations in banana production across Latin America and beyond.

Our colleagues Alexander Zurita and Andrés Zurita will be presenting two scientific investigations focused on improving disease management strategies against black Sigatoka (Pseudocercospora fijiensis), one of the most economically impactful diseases in banana cultivation. Both studies were conducted under commercial conditions in Ecuador and reflect SynTech Research’s commitment to generating robust, field-based data to support sustainable crop protection decisions.

Integrating Biostimulants and Foliar Fertilization into Fungicide Programs

The first presentation, titled “Agronomic evaluation of yield, quality, and Sigatoka response in banana to fungicide programs with biostimulants and foliar fertilization,” examines the potential contribution of foliar inputs within a standard black Sigatoka fungicide program.

The study was conducted on banana cv. Williams in Quinindé, Ecuador, using a randomized complete block design with four treatments, six replicates, and 10 plants per plot. Treatments differed in the presence and combination of foliar fertilizers and biostimulants while maintaining a common fungicide scheme.

Activane® as Part of Fungicide Rotations Against Pseudocercospora fijiensis

The second presentation, “Evaluation of Activane defense inductor incorporated inside a fungicide rotation against Pseudocercospora fijiensis in banana,” focuses on fungicide rotation performance during high disease pressure.

This trial evaluated nine fungicide rotation programs over a 63-day period in La Concordia, Ecuador, during the rainy season (May–July 2024). Significant differences in disease control were observed among treatments.
