Digitalization

SynTech Research Group stays ahead in implementing innovative tools to evaluate agricultural inputs.

Avoiding data gaps in agricultural inputs’ performance, SynTech Research Group complements traditional evaluation methods with the latest innovations. As such, SynTech relies on greenhouse digital phenotyping, field-scale drone imaging, and handheld sensors to deliver a comprehensive, mechanistic understanding of product performance under real-world conditions.

Greenhouse Digital Plant Phenotyping

At SynTech, we overcome the limitations often posed by traditional methods of biostimulants’ evaluation by implementing digital phenotyping technologies, assuring no subtle, transient effect of these products goes unnoticed.

The digital workflow employs a flexible digital phenotyping platform (Phenospex PlantEye) and provides a robust and efficient solution:

  • High-Throughput, Real-Time Data: We replace manual, time-consuming measurements with automated, non-destructive 3D scanning. Allowing for time-series data collection, ensuring no short-term effects are missed.
  • Comprehensive Insights: The systems employed deliver over 20 parameters, from morphology to spectral, guaranteeing key traits that indicate a product’s effect are found, even if the optimal variables are initially unknown. These digital parameters serve as agronomic markers, providing the quantitative data needed for trial validation.
  • Enhanced Reliability & Quality: SynTech’s standardized, automated data collection ensures highly accurate and reproducible results, crucial for meeting strict quality criteria, ensuring reliable findings and rapid, informed decision-making.

This modern approach not only accelerates research but also provides the high-quality data needed to make robust claims about biostimulant efficacy under diverse stress conditions.

Field-Scale Drone Imaging

To improve field trials data collection, SynTech offers advanced drone-based imaging solutions for large-scale field trials.  Delivering high-resolution, georeferenced data that transforms traditional field assessments into a fast, objective, and scalable process.

  • Comprehensive Digital Traits: Drone imagery enables the extraction of various agronomic traits, from morphometric (plant counts, canopy cover, and plant height) to spectral parameters derived from RGB and multispectral data.
  • Spectral Insights for Stress Detection: Using vegetation indices such as NDVI, NDRE, and TGI, detecting variations in chlorophyll content, nutrient status, and early signs of disease or drought stress, before they are visible to the naked eye.
  • Time-Series Analysis: Multiple flights across, tracking dynamic insights into crop performance and treatment effects.
  • Actionable Outcomes: Beyond visualization, these data support yield estimation, variety selection, and stress tolerance evaluation, enabling informed decisions for biostimulant validation and agronomic optimization.

SynTech’s integrated greenhouse and field phenotyping solutions accelerate product development, generate high-quality data for regulatory submissions, and strengthen marketing claims, streamlining innovative biostimulants to market with confidence.

Sensors and Handheld devices

Integrating portable instruments that measure physiological traits directly on the plant, without destructive sampling.

  • Beyond Visual Proxies: Unlike imaging systems that rely on color or reflectance, handheld sensors capture functional processes at the leaf level, delivering precise physiological data.
  • Insight into Plant Function: Measurements revealing insights into the internal functions of the plant, critical for validating claims or product performance.
  • Adding Physiological Depth: Handheld devices complement digital phenotyping by explaining performance patterns through direct physiological evidence.
